Worrying won't add a second to your life.

Good morning.

Welcome to The Morning Motivation, brought to you by Patriot Gold Group and the Public Square App. This week we're talking about the book, Anxious for Nothing, by John MacArthur. A simple week, hopefully still powerful, simple and powerful, simple and important, but a simple week of reminders about anxiety. Yesterday, we talked about how God feeds the birds and he loves you more. So why are you worried? Well you're worried because you don't want God. You want your quality of life. You want your house. You want your job. You want your income. You want the things. You want Amazon. You want more, more, more. Talking to me. If you wanted God, you'd be fine, because you know you have God. But that's not enough. So you're worried you're not going to keep it all. That was yesterday's episode.
The reminder of today is how foolish worrying is. It convicts me more how evil it is, how wicked, how sinful, I should say. It's sinful. It's a sin to worry because you don't trust God. It's also just really foolish, a stupid thing to do. Matthew 6, and who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? Your days have already been numbered. God knows everything and your days are numbered. Job 14, 5 says, his days are determined, the number of his months is with you, and his limits you have set so that he cannot pass. So God knows the day you're going to die. I think of these Silicon Valley billionaires who are spending billions to try and live forever. It ain't going to happen, guys. They should be healthy, but that'll increase the quality of your life, but it's not going to increase the quantity of your life. That's already decided. So worrying is foolish. Sinful and it's foolish. Look at the flowers. I know it's winter or fall, but it still applies.
Why are we worried? The Bible says, Why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow. They do not toil, nor do they spin. Yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothed the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into a furnace, will he not much more clothe you? You of little faith." How about that endowment? You of little faith indeed. So it's about clothes, about more than clothes, but clothes. People have so many clothes. We have closets, multiple closets, his and her closets. We need extra expanded rooms for our clothes. But the most glorious article of clothing ever made, if you look at it under a microscope, it looks just the same as a sackcloth, just made with threads. And John MacArthur makes the point that if you examine under a microscope the petal of a flower, you could become lost in the wonder of what you would see. If you've ever taken a good look at a flower, you will know that there is texture, form, design, substance, and color that man with all his ingenuity cannot come close to duplicating. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will he not much more clothed you?" Yeah, we're still so worried about it. Jesus says that we use these beautiful flowers, we throw them in the furnace, right? The plants are alive today, tomorrow we'll throw them into the furnace. We use them to start fires and cook and stay warm. And a God who would lavish such beauty on temporary fire fodder will certainly provide whatever you really truly need to his children.
That's us. Do you believe that's true? Do you really, actually, profoundly, deeply? Mike Slater dot locals dot com Mike Slater dot locals dot com Night 4, transcript, commercial free, all on Mike Slater dot locals dot com
