The Bible says this generation is pure in its own eyes, yet is not washed from its filthiness. America's biggest problem is it doesn't know its problem...SIN! To the point where we have a month where we celebrate our PRIDE in lust. The Bible warns about this in Proverbs 30 and 31.
Welcome to Politics by Faith. Thank you for being here. I genuinely mean that. Thank you very much for taking 10 minutes of your day. Hopefully you find something here of value from time to time. It is Pride Month. We have not, I've prepared some thoughts for the SiriusXM show and we have not yet gotten to it because of all the rescission and reconciliation stuff that's going on. And maybe that's for the SiriusXM show and we have not yet gotten to it because of all the rescission and reconciliation stuff
that's going on and maybe that's for the best. Maybe we'll never get to it, I don't know. Maybe, or maybe I just need to let it simmer for a little before I unleash. I wanna talk about self-control from two different angles or on two different topics.
Tomorrow, we'll talk about self-control when it comes to money. I have prepared a segment for tomorrow's show about Ben Franklin. He wrote an essay called, I think it's called The Way to Wealth.
And there's just some wonderful wisdom that he gives throughout there that we don't have in America anymore about industry and frugality. And because we've lost these virtues and instead we have become slothful and wasteful.
So we have the sin of sloth and of being wasteful. Those are people's natural instincts. We have, it's very hard therefore to be It's hard. You need a culture that really celebrates and really lifts it up constantly.
But because we don't live those virtues anymore, we of course are going to elect people to Congress who are not going to have those virtues, especially when they're not the ones who are ever held accountable or ever feel the consequences of being slothful and wasteful.
And that's why we have slothful and wasteful Congress people. And that's where we are in our country now. They're talking about raising the debt ceiling by $5 trillion, which is two years worth of deficits. That's it. What are you talking about, everyone?
So that's how we got here. It's sin. It's how we got everywhere from sin. Phil Robertson said, the biggest problem with America is America doesn't know what its problem is. Sin.
And even our wasteful spending is sin. We'll do that one tomorrow. I want to talk about self-control today though from a lust standpoint because it's pride month. I was reading Proverbs 30 today. The words of Augur, the son of Jacob is the only time that this person has ever mentioned
in the Bible, but this is a prophetic word inspired by God. Two quick little bonus parts before we get to the main part here. This is one of my favorite scriptures. It says here, two things I request of you, deprive me now before I die to God, remove falsehood and lies far from me. It's good.
Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food allotted to me, lest I be full and deny you and say, who is the Lord? Or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God." I love this. If I'm too rich, God, then I will be proudful and think that this came from me, that I'm the one who did this and I'll forget you. I'll be full and satisfied and I'll forget everything you've given to me.
If I'm poor, I might be tempted to steal and then and curse you for my lot and curse you by profane your name, by stealing and breaking your commandments. So put me somewhere in the middle and pray God that I can be content
with everything you give me. I love that That's a beautiful scripture. Another one little side bonus here. Here is a generation that curses its father. This is where we are today I believe as well that curses its father does not bless its mother There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes Yet is not washed from its filthiness Pure in our own eyes.
When you have that assessment of yourself, well, you'll never make the corrections you need. We're pure, I'm perfect, everything's great. And you'll never be washed from your filthiness. Pretty good so far, right? We could stop there, but let's move into this theme of lust.
This is verse 20. This is the way of an adulterous woman. She eats and wipes her mouth and says, I have done no wickedness.
Wow.
The imagery I get from this, I imagine this comically demon like ravenous creature who just ate her prey. And the Bible is a couple of references in the Bible where sex like this is described by eating. So you have this demonic figure that just ate this prey and blood dripping down the side of her mouth
and on her chin and she wipes her mouth and then says, I've done no wickedness. Why does she feel that she's done no wickedness? Bruce Waltke said, the adulteress lacks any conscience against smashing the very foundations of an ordered society because for her, gratifying her sexual appetite is no different than gratifying
her gastronomical appetite or her hunger for food. Same for men here as well. This scripture just happens to be about women. So there that's a little bit of Proverbs 30. Now we'll jump to Proverbs 31. Uh, this is, uh, teachings from mom, King Lemuel, teaching from his mom. there. That's a little bit of Proverbs 30. Now we'll jump to Proverbs 31. This is teachings
from mom, King Lemuel teaching from his mom. People quote Proverbs 31 all the time, which is great, but they usually start at verse 10. Who can find a virtuous wife for her worth as far above rubies? It's great. Great. The rest is fantastic. But not as many people quote Proverbs 31, 1 through 10. It says, do not give your strength to women nor your ways to that which destroys kings. A man's lust can waste his strength, spiritual strength, waste his self-respect, waste his self-control,
his time, his purpose in life, just destroy everything. David and Solomon, the two guys who've been focusing the most on this last week, two perfect examples of men who gave their strength and so much more to women. So many men have given away their kingdom, their responsibility to people and family,
the people they're in charge of, to love and provide for all to lust. It's caused so much tragedy. I think it's the root of almost every problem in America actually are these broken families and many of that caused by lust. Well, either money or sex, right? Both of these lacks of self-control. Now what Proverbs 30 and 31 say here is true for
men and women. It's pride. And that's actually how Proverbs 30 starts out. Let's go back to Proverbs 30. He says, surely I am more stupid than any man and do not have the understanding of a man.
So what he's doing here, he's starting off with maximum humility. He's saying, I, I, what do I know?
All I can do is try to make sense of the world through God's word and through his eyes best I can make it. And that's all we can do is just read God's word and rest on that. Every word of God is pure, he says. Now in our modern world today a lot of people will be like maybe if there's a humility there it's oh how can we know anything so I guess everything's true. And you're like no that's not it. How can anyone really know and how do you know anyway?
So I'm just gonna do whatever I want and and I'm gonna be pure in my eyes I've done no wickedness No, no, that's not what the Bible says Every word of God is pure So here's Proverbs 30 starting off with maximum humility. And today there's an entire cult dedicated to pride.
The worst thing that you could be celebrating. They called it pride. Can you believe it? And then they took the rainbow as their icon too, but they called it pride. And I guess I can believe that they would do that, but that the world just ate it up. Absolutely ate it up. I guess I shouldn't be surprised
by that either. Women need to strive to be women of character and virtue. The rest of Proverbs 31. Men need to look for women of character and virtue. We need to crush lust, crush the lust that has permeated every aspect of our culture. And I mean every aspect. We went to the Grand Ole Opry last night, wife and I and three of our kids. We left Jamie at home with a babysitter and like leave him at home. But we love going to the Opry for a couple of reasons. First, we're in Nashville. So you got to do it. You're here, you gotta do the music stuff.
And it's a great concert to take kids to because everyone does like two or three songs, so it moves, you got a bunch of different types of artists that perform, which is fun, so some variety there. And it's easy to park. Park right there for free free and we just zip out
It's like a three minute walk to the venue and you get to your car when you're done And they just like an exit out the back that I found just boom right on the highway So you get home pretty quick at night That's just a great show and it's a great thing. You should go to the Grand Ole Opry, but more than anything It is so wholesome is laughably wholesome
One of the performers was whispering Bill Anderson 87 years old He's saying two songs one was about a unicorn And it sounded like a nursery rhyme song and I'm thinking geez when this song when he first came out with a song this was Like a hit It's like a nursery rhyme and the other song was southern fried
in southern fried but two hilariously wholesome songs It's like a nursery rhyme. And the other song was Southern Fried.
Yeah, Southern Fried. Like two hilariously wholesome songs. And you compare that to today, I put on my Twitter Slater Radio on Twitter, I put a quick clip of a Kesha concert. Just absolute demonic filth by every and any standard. I don't even care how depraved and in it you are. You would
look at that and be like, Oh, that's a lot. This Kesha concert. And you compare that to whisper in Bill Anderson, like, Oh man, what is out there and what is more normalized than ever before? And I put it on Twitter and I said, maybe they were right that we shouldn't have showed Elvis's hips on TV. Because look what has come from that.
We need to reject all of this filth, all of this depravity that is of the world from your life, from your home, from your kids' eyes, which then go to the heart and the soul. You have to actively reject all of it. It's everywhere and it's trying to take you
and your children out as the devil does. Mike Slater dot Locals dot com is the website. We put the transcript up there and we put this podcast a couple minutes before. It's available everywhere else and no commercial. It's available everywhere else and no commercial. Mike Slater dot locals, dot com.
