The Flesh, The World, The Devil
That's the enemy. But the famous line is true, "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist."
If you don't acknowledge the enemy, you can be sure you're losing.
Good morning. Welcome to The Morning Motivation, brought to you by Public Square App and Patriot Gold Group. Thanks for being here. So, this week's theme is about Christianity being a fight. But the question is, against what? What are the enemies? Who are the enemies that we're fighting against? First, just to prove that the Christian life is indeed a fight, Paul said to Timothy, 2 Timothy 2, excuse me, 3, Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. I love that. No soldier is, well, he's not a good soldier, is going to be given a command by his general, and then say, Okay, I'm on it, love it, I am, and I do, but first I gotta go mow the lawn.

Back at the house, the grass getting high, I just, and then I got, I'm big into Ted Lasso right now. He's so funny. So I just wanna watch the latest episode there, and then my daughters really wanna go to the Taylor Swift concert, so I'm gonna take them there. But then I'm gonna get right on whatever it is you asked me to do. That's not how that works. So who enlisted you? God, of course. But enlisted you to what? Oh, why, live a life of ease and comfort and selfishness.

Don't only think about you always. No, Christianity is a fight. A fight against what? First, the flesh. This is from JC Ryle. He must fight the flesh even after Even after conversion, He carries within Him, that's you, you carry within you, a nature prone to evil and a heart weak and unstable as water. To keep that heart from going astray, there is need of a daily struggle and a daily wrestling in prayer. Paul says, I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others, I myself should be disqualified. I see a law in my members warring against the law of my mind and bringing me into captivity.

O wretched man that I am, who shall deliver me from the body of this death? Galatians 5.24 says, Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Colossians 3.5 Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature, sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. One of the greatest deceits of our life today is most people think, I'm good, I'm fine, nothing to worry about inside of me. It's that other guy that's the problem. And the enemy has won by subversion. Sun Tzu, the quote of his, the famous quote is, the greatest victory is that which requires no battle.

Subversion, the Trojan horse, it's already inside of you, you don't even know it yet, and you're losing. That's the flesh, right? That's most people don't even know it's there. Don't even know that it's something I need to fight. That's a problem. The enemy's winning. Again, the best victory is the one that doesn't even have to fight to win. We need to fight. The second enemy after the flesh is the world. J.C. Ryle, he must fight the world. The subtle influence of that mighty enemy must be daily resisted, and without a daily battle, can never be overcome. The love of the world's good things, the fear of the world's laughter or blame, the secret desire to keep in with the world, the secret wish to do as others in the world do and not to run into extremes. All these are spiritual foes which beset the Christian continually on his way to heaven and must be conquered. James 4 4, the friendship of the world is enmity with God and whoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Whoa!

1st John 2 15, if any man loved the world the love of the Father is not in him. Could this be any more clear? Galatians 6.4 The world is crucified unto me, and I to the world. Wow. 1 John 5.4 Whoever is born of God overcomes the world. Romans 12.2 Do not be conformed to this world. Wow. The desire to be liked has to be just axed. There's a claim from the world that says you can't be extreme. Right? Let's just take like a pro-life issue. Oh, you can't be extreme and think that life begins at conception and that we should never kill babies. No, you need to talk about more sensible positions like allowing abortion up to 40 weeks. That's the sensible.

Like what? No, no, you must be an extremist for the truth. Even when the world is like, oh, I don't know. So you fight the flesh, you fight the world, and you fight the devil. J.C. Ryle, the old enemy of mankind, is not dead. Ever since the fall of Adam and Eve, he's been going to and fro in the earth, and walking up and down in it, and striving to compass one great end—the ruin of man's soul. Never slumbering and never sleeping, he's always going about as a lion, seeking whom he may devour. An uneasy enemy, he's always near us, about our path and about our bed, spying out all our ways.

A murderer and a liar from the beginning, he labors night and day to cast us down to hell. Sometimes by leading into superstition, sometimes by suggesting infidelity, sometimes by one kind of tactics, and sometimes by another. He's always carrying on a campaign against our souls. That sounds dramatic. Job 1, 7, Satan has desire to have you, that he may sift you as wheat. This mighty adversary must be daily resisted if we wish to be saved. The devil is a constant enemy to the Christian soul. That great, sleepless, and unwearied foe is always laboring to do us harm. It is his constant object to wound, hurt, vex, injure, or weaken if he cannot kill and destroy.

He is an unseen enemy who is always near us, about our path and about our bed, and spying out all our ways, preparing to suit his temptations to the special weak points of every man. He knows us far better than we know ourselves. He's been studying one book for 6,000 years, the book of fallen human nature. And he is a spirit of almost boundless subtlety and cunning and of boundless malice. The best of saints has little idea how many vile suggestions in their heart come from the devil. Wow, that's a great line. Let me say, the best of saints has little idea how many vile suggestions in their heart comes from the devil and what a restless adversary stands at their right hand Wow, it was the Duke of Wellington who said in time of war It is the worst mistake to underrate your enemy and try to make a little war We have to wage a full and complete and total war against the three great enemies the flesh the world and the devil.

Let's learn more about these. Let's be more aware of these. Let's see how they're working in our life. And the more you do, the more you will realize that, indeed, Christianity is, and can be nothing less than, a fight.
