If we can't argue well in the GOP primary, what hope do we have winning anyone else? Because the battle isn't against the other candidate, it's not even really against the Democrats. It's against something much more powerful.
Good morning, welcome to the morning motivation. This week we're going to talk about loving your enemies. Why? Because the GOP primaries are starting and I'm already disappointed in everyone. You're the problem, all right? All you, all you people. Are you already annoying me?

No.

I'm not helping either in this scenario at all. On the TV the other day, we talked a bit about this, and I said, can't we all just get along? But I think the proper biblical sentence I was looking for was, you've heard that it was said, you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy, but I say to you, love your enemies. It's Jesus in Matthew 5, 43. So what does it mean to love your enemies? We got to get this right now. Of course, Jesus wasn't talking about Democrats, right? I mean, clearly they are our enemies and we should hate them.

I'm joking, but that's not even what I'm talking about here.

I'm not even talking about Democrats. I'm talking about fellow Republicans or whether you're a Republican or not, a conservative, conservatives. I'm talking about conservatives. If we can't even agree with fellow conservatives, what chances do we have about arguing well with people who we vehemently disagree with? Or even more importantly, maybe people who we slightly disagree with, but could convince. If we can't agree well with fellow conservatives, then we have no chance. And I think we can do better than that. At least I want to do better that I've been doing. Jesse Kelly had a tweet the other day that actually brought me peace. He said, pro tip, rest easy and let it go. Whatever happens, the GOP will get the nominee it deserves. The GOP will get the nominee it deserves. How do you interpret that? Maybe at first I'm like, yeah, we will get a great one. It's like, no, no, no, that could be a really bad thing. We could end up with the worst nominee, but what he said will still be true. We'll still get the guy we deserve for better or worse. I'd like to get the one we deserve for the better. So full disclosure before we embark upon this primary journey, which I was actually very looking forward to and then got just smacked in the face on day one with why I don't really look forward to political campaigns at all. But full disclosure, politically, I like both of them. I like Trump and DeSantis very much. And I think that's why I get annoyed at really either side who hates the other. Real quick, I think of like a bell curve. I think there's a small minority of people who love Trump and hate DeSantis, and then on the other extreme, there's a small minority of people who love DeSantis and hate Trump. I think most are in the middle there somewhere to varying degrees liking one and also liking the other. So I get defensive because, well let me put it like this, the part of me that likes DeSantis got defensive because as soon as he jumped in the race, the only Trumpers were into full force. And it's like, guys, I know you like him, I do too, but, and I'm sure I'll get annoyed at the never Trumpers on the other side who are DeSantis, all DeSantis never, it's like guys. Also, I think we got to be careful of putting too much of our identity in a candidate. This is a thing that happens in politics is they become idols, like, Oh, I love this guy. And I love him so much that I identify with him and he is me now. So if anyone attacks him, it's like they're attacking me. And I fall into that trap as well. And I want to really work against that because it's a lie. Ephesians 6.12 identifies our real enemy. Ephesians 612, for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. That is one of my favorite scriptures in the Bible and obviously we need to dive much deeper into that to figure that out and I really think if we can understand it, it'll change everything in our life, but will in particular change how we have political discussions, whether it's with Democrats, independents, or conservatives. Hopefully this is all very helpful to you. It is to me, I really need to hear this. It is to me, I really need to hear this. So we'll go on this journey tomorrow.
