I'll tell you tomorrow, but it's great news and surreal. Any guesses?
In the meantime, here is today's Morning Motivation:
Poison to the Soul: Envy the Wicked
This week, in honor of Trump Derangement Syndrome coming back full steam, we're going to talk about different sins that are poison to the soul. Let us start with envy.
Good morning.
Welcome to the Morning Motivation brought to you by the Public Square app and Patriot Gold Group. Thanks for being here. Do not worry. We will talk this week in the longer foreign podcast about the just pure hatred against Donald Trump, the seething anger and hatred that is rotting people's souls. We call it Trump derangement syndrome. But this week in the Morning Motivation, I want to talk about another poison of the soul and that is envy. I started thinking about it this week with Drew Barrymore. She's in the news because, I don't even know how it happened, but I read an article about Steven Spielberg, who was the director of ET when she was a kid. And Drew Barrymore said that he, Steven Spielberg, was the only person in my life that was ever a parental figure. So I guess her dad was abusive and alcoholic and who knows where her mom was but she started using marijuana and snorting cocaine when she was 12. She did her first job at re-stint at rehab when she was 12. And Steven Spielberg was in some article talking about how fame and just it all robbed her of her childhood. She's super sad Super sad, but you know you look at Drew Barrymore. You're like. Oh, I love your badge I only we were as happy and as famous and as rich as Drew Barrymore that my life would be perfect It's like no how many stories of celebrities do we need to hear who have miserable lives? And they it's not you wouldn't want their life for one second no matter the money no matter the fame. It's so easy to look at anyone's life. Forget even about the celebrity. Maybe you don't want the celebrity life, but you can look at someone and say, oh, I want that life. But you really don't. This is Charles Spurgeon. He said, when we see the wicked prosper, we are apt to envy them. When we hear the noise of their mirth, their happiness, and our own spirit is heavy, we half think that they have the best of it. This is foolish and sinful. If we knew them better, and especially if we remembered their end, we should pity them. I love that last part, especially if we knew their end, we should pity these people. The Bible speaks of this. This is well before social media. The Bible says, For I was envious of the arrogant as I saw the prosperity of the wicked." And this envy made this person's life worse, as it always does. Envy will destroy you. And the psalm ends with him finally wising up. For behold, those who are far from you shall perish. You put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you. But for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I might tell of all your works." When you feel envious, is God your refuge? Well, no, because then you wouldn't feel envious. Spurgeon ends with this, he says, The death blow of envy is a calm consideration of the future. The wealth and glory of the ungodly are a vain show. The pompous appearances flash out for an hour, and then is extinguished. What is the prosperous sinner the better for his prosperity when judgment overtakes him? As for the godly man, his end is peace and blessedness and none can rob him of his joy. Therefore, let him forgo envy and be filled with sweet content. Psalm 23 17, let not your heart envy sinners but continue in the fear of the Lord all the day. but continue in the fear of the Lord all the day. We'll talk about what envy does to the soul tomorrow.
