Envy not only causes us to miss the blessings we have, it causes us to misunderstand what blessings even are!
Good morning. Welcome to the Morning Motivation brought to you by Patriot Goal Group and the Public Square app. This week we're talking about just toxic things to the soul, things that are keeping us away from living a life of peace and joy. We're gonna have a segment in a couple days here about Trump's indictment and just Trump derangement syndrome and the anger and hatred that people have against Donald Trump. It is very destructive to our country but also to each individual person who has that anger and hatred. But today I want to wrap up this idea of envy. I'll talk about some things that envy does to us. Envy makes us forget the good things we have. That's the first. It blinds us to the good things we have. Envy causes us even to misunderstand what good things are. So not only do we miss the good things we have, but we don't even know what good things are anymore.

Here's what I mean. If you're envious of that person over there because they have a lot of money, we then tend to think that blessing equals more money. If I'm envious of the size of that person's house, then we think that the opposite of that envy is the blessing, in this case, the bigger house. But that's not what blessings are. Blessings aren't the opposite of what you're envious of. Sometimes blessings are even trials. James 1, 2, we quote all the time, consider it pure joy, my brothers, when you face trials of many kinds.

And it's not that there are blessings that come out of trials, it's that the trial is the blessing. Consider it joy when you face it. Romans 5, 3, not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope. And hope does not put us to shame because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. So work backwards. Do you want hope? Hope is in that same category of love and peace. So if you want the hope, well, how do you get it?
0:02:05
Well, you need character. How do you get character? Well, it's produced through endurance. Well, how do you get endurance? Well, it's produced through suffering, and that's what we have to rejoice about, the suffering that comes, which it will. So envy distorts our perception of what even blessings are. A blessing is not the opposite of what you're envious of. God has other plans. And finally, envy is selfish. It makes us the center of the universe. Everything is about my comfort, my wants, my needs, my feelings. And then that leads to envy being self-righteous. I deserve whatever it is. I deserve money. I deserve the bigger house. I deserve the nicer car. I deserve more fame. I deserve a higher paid bigger paycheck. I deserve the corner office. Whatever. I deserve whatever it is more than they do right you become self-righteous when you think like that because the problem is that causes us to forget what we really deserve which is eternal damnation you don't want what you deserve but when we're full of envy we think we deserve only good things I deserve start talking to yourself like that you forget what you really deserve and what you would get if it weren't for Jesus So those are four good things to think about today envy makes us forget the good things we have it causes us to misunderstand What good things even are?

Envy makes us selfish and even more self-righteous So along with anger which we see a lot of with this Trump derangement syndrome. Let's get that out of our hearts. Let's get the envy out of our hearts as well.
