This psalm presents us with two ways to live. And everyone makes their choice.
Good morning, welcome to the Morning Motivation brought to you by Patriot Gold Group and the Public Square app. Just got back from my best friend's wedding in Oregon. It was a beautiful time. Just amazing friends, great Christian men and women. The rehearsal dinner night, everyone sat around in a really casual, comfortable corner with a beautiful view, perfect weather, and everyone gave a speech, a toast, just pouring love into both of them and their families. My friend has two sisters and a brother, and each of them had everyone in tears talking about how much they love their brother and how fortunate they are to have a brother like him and how they're all best friends and everyone's balling and it was just awesome.

And the reason it was so beautiful is because everyone was united in Christ, and it was a really uplifting, wonderful weekend, and it's wonderful to be back. I hope you had a good weekend, too. The theme this week is Psalm 1, one through two. We're gonna spend a week on two verses. Here it is, Psalm 1. Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners." Meaning like, stands with the sinners, not in their way as in against them, but like, does the things that sinners do.

"...nor sits in the seat of scoffers, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night." That's the blessed man. His delight is in the law of the Lord, and of His law He meditates day and night. I want to read some analysis here from Brian Tabb from Bethlehem College and Seminary. He says, Psalm 1 presents two, and only two, ways to live. The way of the world, or the way of the Word. Those who walk in the way of the wicked stand as sinners do, and sit in the seat of scoffers. Those are people who orient their lives around the world's values. The wicked in Psalm 1 are those who seek independence from God. Those who have only a human earthly perspective of life and who live according to God's or excuse me the world, but on God.

The righteous recognize the futility of the world's wisdom and values, and instead orients their lives around God's Word. That is the life of faith that leads to blessing, fruitfulness, and fellowship with God now and for eternity. That's Jeremiah 17, 7. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord. He's like a tree planted by water that sends its roots out by the stream and does not fear when heat comes for its leaves remain green and is not anxious in the year of drought for it does not cease to bear fruit.

No matter what difficulty is going on in the world around you, you are like a tree planted by the stream. You trust in the Lord, and you will always be healthy and fruitful. As you watch the news this week, you'll be met with a lot of scoffers, be met with a lot of the wicked, counsel of the wicked, the people who live by the world's values. Take it in, or like, see it, look at it. It's impossible to ignore fully, but just let's not be led by it. That's not our worldview. We are not basing our life off of the news and the people who give you the news and tell you what's important in life or in the world. Our delight is in the law of the Lord. So today that was a quick little overview on the wicked and the blessed.

That makes sense. This week, we're going to break down some of the other key words. What is counsel of the wicked exactly? What are scoffers? And tomorrow, we're going to talk about the words delight and meditate. But in the meantime, let's make a decision about who we want to follow. And it's not just follow, it's also what we want to take delight in, the counsel of the wicked or the law of the Lord.
