Paul tells us exactly what the posture of a Christian should be in this world. There's no mention of being "nice" at all costs. We're told to be like a teacher, soldier, athlete and farmer. We talk about what each of those means in real life.
Good morning. Happy Friday. Welcome to the Morning Motivation brought to you by the Public Square App, Patriot Gold Group. This week we've been talking about Jesus being nice. So what should our posture be, if not just nice? Well, as always, the Bible tells us. 2 Timothy 2 verse 2 Paul says the things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses Entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. That's number one teach Suffer hardship with me as a good soldier of Christ Jesus soldier No soldier an act of service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.
Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules, and the hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops. So how should we wish our posture be as Christians? That of the teacher, the soldier, the athlete, and the farmer. Those are four verses right there. It's right there in the Bible. I didn't make those up. The teacher, the soldier, the athlete, and the farmer. So let's briefly go through these. I feel like we should do way more on this, but let's give an overview. So the teacher is dedicated to the truth. The truth, doctrine, scripture. Watch your life and doctrine closely. And it's your job as the teacher to pass it on to the next generation. We talked about that yesterday. How about this one? Soldier. No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. Who enlisted you as a soldier? I guess before we get to that, the point is we're at war. Not just with Hamas, Iran, or what it's much more than that. We're at least fighting against sin, but we're fighting a spiritual battle in our country.
And you are called to be on the front lines of the battle. Paul says, suffer hardship along with us. And there's an interesting addition here. Good soldiers. It says, suffer hardship with me as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. It means you're noble you're excellent and on duty 24-7 right no soldier when it's time for war tells the general hey general I'm off the clock it's it's 530 I'm off at 5 you know I turn my phone off so can't be bothered till the morning that's not how that works you're on all the time. So are you as a Christian. You ready? That needs to be your posture. The good soldier. So we got the teacher, the good soldier. You're also an athlete. What's an athlete? It means you have to train. You have to be disciplined and prepared. And the goal is to win a prize. There's a purpose to it. There's a goal in mind. You're a competitor, you strive to win. Except athletes in real life, they strive to win a corruptible crown, but not the Christian. So you're trained, you're disciplined, you're prepared, you have a purpose. And then finally, I think this one's my favorite, the farmer. This is the man who works to the point of total exhaustion, even though the work is tedious. So, there's no thrill of victory like the athlete has. There's no courage of battle that the soldier has. For the farmer, it's just rote duty. It's toil. That's such a good word, toil. Doesn't toil sound like toil? It's just toil. And that's the posture that we as a Christian need to have. Lasting, hard work, day in, day out, for as long as you live. So you have to have the posture of a teacher. Now notice none of this is nice. That's not that focus. I mean, you have the fruits of the Spirit, of course. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness. So it's there, but it's not the focus. It's not, oh, it's got to be nice.
No, you have to be like a teacher dedicated to the truth. You have to be like a soldier with courage to win the spiritual battles. You have to be an athlete who puts in tireless dedication at getting better and winning. And you have to be the farmer, motivated from within, patient, hardworking to the end. And what do they all have in common? The teacher, soldier, athlete, and farmer? Denial of the self. Because it's all about God. 2nd Timothy 2. Mike Slater.locals.com. Transcript, commercial free.
