Megan Rapinoe's night didn't do the way she intended, so to her, this is proof God doesn't exist. Let's take a few minutes to find our what exactly the Bible says about this.
Good morning. Welcome to the Morning Motivation brought to you by Patreon Gold Group and the Public Square app. Take a quick pause in our theme of the week to talk about Megan Rapinoe and what she said. Some good life lessons to learn from this. Megan Rapinoe is a soccer activist, blue hair, Victoria's Secret model for a minute. Then Victoria's Secret sales went in the tank. So that's over. But you've seen her before. Her very last game as a professional soccer player was the other day and five minutes into the game she tore her Achilles tendon. She had to leave the game so she didn't get that big final send-off that she wanted. She was very upset about that. Here's what she said at a post-game press conference.

I mean, you know, I'm not a religious person or anything, and if there wasn't God, like, this is proof that there isn't. This is sh** up. So there you have it. This is proof that there is no God. Now, some say that this is proof that there is a God, but this is not a place for snark on this podcast. Listen, maybe she meant it as a silly joke. She laughed about it, but I don't think that's a joke. I'm guessing she is indeed constantly full of bitterness. That life does not go exactly how she wants it to go. Selfish people, prideful people who live for worldly things, who live for themselves are bitter when things don't go as they plan. Christianity teaches us that it's not about our plans but it's about His plans for us. That is the alignment that we need to find. It's not about praying to get God on board with what I want. It's about praying to change my heart to get in line with what God wants. God said, my purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please. From the east I summon a bird of prey, from a far-off land a man will fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that I will bring about. What I planned, that I will do. That's God. Rapinoe uses the fact that things are not going according to her plans as proof that God doesn't exist. But the fact that things aren't going according to her plan is irrelevant. It's always God's plan. It's never yours, unless yours are in line with his. See the difference? So I've been reading through Acts, just one chapter a day. It's super easy to do. It takes five minutes to read a chapter of Acts. But it's a really neat experience just to read one a day. I just read this two days ago. This is Paul in Acts 20, verse 28. And now behold, I am going to Jerusalem, bound in the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me. I don't know what's gonna happen, but it's gonna be real bad. He goes anyway. So clear throughout Acts, Paul says the Holy Spirit told me to do this, tells me not to do this, tells me to go here, don't go here, wait, wait, wait, now go, look for this guy or someone like this. He'll help you here, there, right? He's just completely following God's plan. That's why he calls himself a slave to God. That's the posture of a Christian. A person who obeys, not a person who feels that they're in charge and knows what's best and demands that God obeys them. So that was Megan Rapinoe. This is a quarterback, CJ Stroud. He's playing for the Texans. Yeah, yeah, he's the Texans quarterback. And here he is after a game.
I don't deserve his grace and his mercy, but he still gives it to me and I love him for that because, I mean, it's not about me, it's about him and his glory. So I think that's where it comes from. I think God made me like that. I've been through a lot, not only in football, but things that made me just kind of chill when everything is going crazy. I thank God for putting that on me.

So you can choose which of these postures you'd like to have in your life. That the world is against me all the time, and God is against me, and if there were a God, then this is proof that there's not, or whatever, because everything should be going exactly the way I want it. You can have that posture, or you can have the posture of no matter what happens I will love God. Quick final point. I think in America we focus too much on plans. This didn't go according to plan. Why do you have a plan? We focus too much on plans and achievement. God just wants you to fellowship with Him. Maybe not just, but first. Forget about achievement. Forget about plans. That will come when he wants it. Just focus on loving and worshiping. Micah 6, 8, He has told you, O man, what is good. What's good? I want to know what's good. What does the Lord require of you?

I want to know. But to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God. Walk humbly with your God. Not ask God to walk pridefully with me. You walk humbly with God. He wants relationship over achievement. And listen, there's a lot more dramatic examples of life not going according to our plans. Sickness and death come to mind, Megan. But the moral for all of us is let's not get bogged down by our little stories and our little plans. and how we can be a part of God's big story. Mike Slater dot locals dot com.
