Certainly one of the most uncomfortable truths in the Bible is the use of the Greek word "doulos". We've capitulated on this word, but we won't here.
Good morning. Welcome to The Morning Motivation, brought to you by Patriot Gold Group and the Public Square app. This week we're talking about the word slave. What does it mean to be a slave to Christ? The Greek word doulos is all through the New Testament there. It means slave. It's often translated bond servant or servant or something like that, but it means slave. 25, 21, well done, good and faithful slave, doulos. We and I'm excited next week we're going to talk all about pilgrims and how we have to have a pilgrim mindset even in 2023. We need to also have the mindset of a slave because that's what you're inviting people to. When you give somebody the gospel, you're saying to them, I want you to become a slave to Jesus Christ. Give up all your independence, your freedom, and submit yourself to the Lord. That's it. It's not ever spoken of like that, but that's what it is. So what does it mean to be a slave of Christ? John MacArthur gives a couple here that I think are worth sharing. First, permanent ownership. If you're a servant or an employee, you can be hired, fired, quit, all this. A slave is owned. Owned because a slave is bought with a price. Second thing, a slave and a Christian is as exclusive ownership. Permanent and also exclusive. You can't serve two masters. And when you serve one, you serve the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

All of it. Exclusively. Number three, the aspect of a slave and a Christian, the same. Total dependence on the master for everything. Total dependence. And then fourth, all discipline and reward comes from the Master. And amen to that because He is a good Master. Revelation 22, then the angel showed me the river of the water of life. This is opposed to the pit of fire, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city. Also, on either side of the river, the tree of life, with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it now.

Here's the key. His slaves will worship Him. They, who, you, slaves, will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. Name written on your foreheads, and we the slaves will worship Him forever. It's a great tie-in to the pilgrims who were on a very specific and beautiful mission as slaves of Christ. And we should, it's almost like we should make it a holiday. We'll do that next week.
