Jesus bookends a section with two commands: If you're worrying right now, stop. If you haven't started worrying, don't start. And it's worth ending the week with the ultimate reminder: He is the same yesterday and today and forever
Good morning. Welcome to The Morning Motivation. Thanks for being here. This week we're talking about worrying and anxiety. All friendly reminders. In Matthew 6.25, Jesus told his followers, Do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink, nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? The Greek word here, it's better translated, stop worrying. Do not be worried about your life. Stop worrying. And then Matthew 6.31, the verb tense is don't start worrying. So it's stop worrying and then don't start So at first is a bookend right the beginning is stop worrying. So if you're if you're worrying right now stop and If you haven't started Don't start. I just don't knock it off I've been thinking for years now about how much prosperity can really mess with our souls And one reason is back in the day when we were much less prosperous We had to be way more reliant on God or it was obvious how much more reliant we had to be. We're just as reliant. We have to be just as reliant now as always but it was more obvious back then. We didn't have the medications to take pain away. We didn't have medical technology to cure us of disease. We didn't have ways to move water to farms where there is no water, or if it's not raining. If it didn't rain, that was it. And you could be a farmer and you could do everything right, and then a plague of locusts comes through and you're gone. Or there's a drought, and that's it. And there could be years of famine, years of famine, nothing you can do. And now, because we think we've conquered these things, we've tended to think now that we are God. I like this analysis from Tucker Carlson. He said that really one of the major downfalls, I shouldn't say downfall, one of the major reasons why elites today think that they can run the world is they dropped the atom bomb. And it created this God complex. Well, it's always been one, but it created more of a God complex in our world leaders because they can destroy cities now. Look at the power they have. Sure, it's the opposite of creation, but it's still power. And it got to their souls. It's been really great at nighttime.

We started reading the little house in the prayer books to the kids. And the kids have to do everything. And they were reliant on God, not the kids, they all had to do everything. And they were reliant on God for everything. So the one we just read the other day is, it's freezing cold winter, and they're living in a dugout house like underground basically And they don't have anything and they're worried a little bit and pauses. Don't worry this spring we'll see the land is smooth and there's not a lot of rocks or stumps and We're now three miles from the railroad and we'll be able to sell what we grow and it's gonna be great and it's also Simple and so clearly reliant on God for everything. So are we. It's just easier for us today to hide behind our own effort. And us hiding behind our own effort causes the anxiety. We've deceived ourselves into thinking that we are the ones in charge. And of course that's gonna make us anxious. Because deep down we don't know what we're gonna be capable of tomorrow. And we're so concerned about external factors because we think we're in control but then we realize oh but I'm not in control of these other external things so I'm really not in control and that's what the anxiety is and God says don't worry I'm the only external factor that matters just focus on me Jesus said do not worry about tomorrow tomorrow will care for itself each day has enough trouble of its own don't worry about the future you can't solve anything about the future tomorrow. Just focus on right now. A plan, of course, sure, sure, sure. But don't worry. Our anxiety is doubt about God's sovereign control and power. That's it. But Hebrews 13, 8 says, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And if you're worried about the future, look to the past. Has God sustained you in the past? Of course, here you are. Well, He will sustain you in the future. That's one way to get more hope for the future. Look to the past. He got you through yesterday. His promises are true, and they're true for the future as I hope we can take Jesus's commands, not advice, but commands. Stop worrying. Stop worrying.
If you're worrying right now, stop. And if you haven't started worrying yet, don't. Mike Slater dot Locals dot com. The night before, transcript, commercial free on the website, Mike Slater dot Locals dot The night before, transcript, commercial free on the website, Mike Slater dot Locals dot com.
