We have a new term, "deaths of despair". This is a sign that we are mission the mark as a culture. The antidote to this depression and anxiety is hope and gratitude and peace and all things we've talked about. But we haven't yet talked about Joy. A GREAT joy. A joy no one can take away from you. And a joy that can be yours.Let's spend this Advent time up to Christmas talking about this Joy.
Good morning, welcome to Morning Motivation brought to you by the Patriot Gold Group and Public Swear App. All of this talk about happiness, well it's just the opposite. It's really all this talk about anxiety, depression, suicide, terrible things. We have a term for it now, deaths of despair. Geez, we are missing the mark. and over the year here we've talked about gratitude and we've talked about peace and all these different antidotes to that but we've never yet talked about joy. I want to go through John Piper's book The Dawning of Indestructible Joy to prepare us for Christmas but it's not just a Christmas thing. It's joy every day. Luke 2 10, Behold, I bring you good news of great joy. That's what I want. I want great joy.

Not a little bit of joy. I want great joy. John 16 22, So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. Hey, Kel, I want a great joy, and not only that, not only a great joy, but one that no one can take away from me. Okay, well, how do we get this joy, this great joy? John 15, 11, these things I have spoken to you, that my joy, whose joy? My joy, Jesus, my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full beautiful all right so we got three scriptures here so we know we have from Jesus this person from Jesus let me do this way we have a great joy that cannot be taken away and comes from Jesus and is full it's full but we need to be reminded of it that's okay got to take a shower?

I took one yesterday. Yep, gotta do it every day. We need to similarly be reminded of this great joy that comes from God. 2 Peter 1 13, I think it right as long as I am in this body to stir you up by way of reminder. That's all this podcast is. There's nothing unique here. I mean, I'm not, you know what I mean? There's no original thought. Let me put it like that. There's no original thoughts here. My pamphlet book, How to Change Someone's Mind, I stole a point from a friend of mine and we were walking in church. I distinctly remember where we were.

We're walking in church. It was me, this guy whose point I stole, and then another guy. I said, hey kid, do you mind if I take that point and For my book and he's like yeah, yeah, man, of course, and the third guy goes. Oh, Nick you You guys think you have original ideas? Yeah, yeah, I guess I need that We're all taking it This is all just reminders. I'm not making up anything in the scripture. It's all there So let's stir each other up by way of reminder.

Let's start this journey with first wanting it. Let's want it, and then pray we can get it. John 1, 14, And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. And we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. For from his fullness we have all received grace upon grace. How about that? Grace upon grace. So my understanding is that the term just means heaps. It doesn't just mean. It means heaps of grace.
0:03:48
Mounds of grace. Piles of grace. Christians receive grace, and then more grace. And then you're served grace on top of your double grace. And then there's grace on top of that. And then more grace. There's grace. And Jesus is full of grace. And you just get this grace. You're showered with grace. The next line is, For the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
0:04:17
So the law was given through Moses, amen, grace and truth through Jesus. The law shows us that we can't meet God's standards. We need that law. Otherwise, you think you're just swell. The grace of Jesus rescues us from the punishment that we deserve because we don't meet those standards. I like it like this. The law pinpoints the problem. The grace fixes the problem.

And as sin increases, grace increases even more. I want the fullness of this and the Word has become flesh, the birth of Jesus and from His fullness we have received heapings of grace. Thank you God for that. So I want that grace. I want the peace that comes from it. I want the joy. I want the joy that comes from knowing you have it and it can't be taken away. So if you want it too, let's spend this month together with these healthy reminders Mike Slater that locals calm for a transcript met before and commercial free on the website Mike Slater locals calm
