John couldn't be more clear in 1 John why we have Christmas. He repeats himself just to make it even more clear. But even so, it's so easy to miss in this busy time. And if you miss it, it's likely you'll miss the joy of it.
Good morning. Welcome to the morning motivation brought to you by the Patriot Gold Group and the Public Square app. I hope your Christmas is going okay. We're almost there, you know. This is the exciting time. This build up should be, maybe it's because Christmas is on a Monday, so it feels different. I don't know. Still got two more weeks of work, right? But still, I hope we can find joy in these next two weeks. I have a feeling that Christmas is gonna really jump up on us, right? We'll get done with these two weeks, and then it'll be the weekend, and like, oh wait, Sunday's Christmas Eve? Hold on, whoa, and then Christmas Monday, like what's going on? How'd this happen so quickly? And we're gonna miss these next two weeks. So let's do the best we can to slow it down and really have that joy every day, as much as we can. Today, let's talk about, the whole month here is about joy. Today, why did Christmas happen? Why? 1 John 3, 5 and 1 John 3, 8. The Bible is very clear, I like when it is. Why did the Son of God come into the world as a human? That's what we talk about on Christmas. That's the point. Why though? Here's what he says. You know that he appeared to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. Great.
Then verse 8, the reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. What are the works of the devil? Well, just before that, John says that the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The devil sins, and Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, which means to destroy sin. So two times, reign around, boom boom, 1 John 3, he appeared to take away sins and he appeared to destroy sin. Perfect. Now here's the point here. It's not just sin in general, but your sin, my sin, our specific sin. Galatians 2.20, I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me, not for general people, for me. Christmas can be a very distant thing, just all of it, so easy to get distracted, the hustle and the bustle and the travel. It's just a mess. But even if you can get some time to focus on the meaning of Christmas, that's awesome. But even then it's still easy to get distracted and talk about the coming of earth to earth, Jesus coming to earth a long time ago. And it's like, okay, that's better. And then maybe you keep digging. Like, oh, it was to take away sin. sin okay and that's not it's closer he came to rescue you from your sin he came to fight the devil on your behalf it's your victory he achieved it's your eternity he came for you and from that certainly we should feel joy today even Even on this Wednesday in the middle of the month,
Jesus says in John 12, says, For this purpose I have come to this hour, Father, glorify your name. Yes, let's glorify it with great joy today. Mike Slater dot locals dot com. Commercial free. Transcript night before. It's on the website. It's on the website. Mike Slater dot locals dot com.
