What an awesome line of scripture tucked into 1 Peter 1, "Even angels long to look into these things". Whoa. What does that mean? Maybe having something over the angels will bring you Joy today.
Good morning, welcome to Morning Motivation, brought to you by the Patreon Goal Group in the Pulp Fiction Square app. Christmas, thanks for being here. I'm so excited for today's episode because there's this line of scripture that I've never read before my whole life. Let's first start with a line of scripture that everyone's heard a billion times. John 3.16, God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. First John 4, it says God is love and here he so loved the world. I remember hearing this for the first time from Piper. That God so loved the world doesn't mean, it's not about the amount that he loved the world. It's his way of loving the world. loved it so, like in this way. He so loved it. He loved it in this way that he gave his only son. That is a... that love from God was costly. So that's the first thing.
I'm going to think about that a lot this Christmas. That God so loved the world that he did all this. So when you see the Christmas story and all that stuff, that's this proof of God's love. is how he loved us. And he did this amazing thing for me, a sinner. Paul said, God shows his love for us. And now while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. So that's the first point. Second point, 1 Peter 1, this is a section encouraging Christians who are persecuted. says, you have an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. Pretty good. In this you rejoice with joy. That's the theme of the month. Though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been by various trials. Let's skip ahead to verse 10. This gets a little confusing, the last line is like, whoa, concerning this salvation. Right, so he describes the salvation, the whole process, how it all works. The prophets who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, these prophets searched intently and with the greatest care, trying to find out the time and the circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah. and the glories that would follow. They're like, oh where is it? Where is it? What's it gonna look like?
It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who had preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. So the prophets didn't fully know, they didn't fully understand the Holy Spirit was speaking, they didn't fully understand what was going on, but we now know. We now know what the prophets were talking about. Here's the next line. Even angels long to look into these things. How about that line? How about that? You'd have to put that line in. What a capper that is. angels long to look into these things. All right, what does that sentence mean? Here's the deal. The angels don't know redemption. You have something over the angels. They don't understand what redemption feels like. The angels don't know grace. The angels don't know salvation. Angels have never been separated from God. They don't know what reconciliation looks like, feels like. They never needed it. They've never been separated.
The word look into means to physically stoop down, peer intently, and inspect curiously. I think the inspect curiously is the line that they're like, He just said what how is this working? Even angels long to look into these things. How what is the salvation? They're stooping down and inspecting curiously What? What is this redemption? Why did God do it this way? Why did God? Give his son to these people After what they did why did God love the world so The angels don't know salvation we do We know it We know what it's like to be an enemy of God and Then to be loved in such a way even while you're an enemy But still loved in such a way that he gave his only son that you can then be reconciled with him forever. That of course should bring you great joy. Maybe even more joy than the angels have. Mike Slater.locals.com. Version free. Night before. Transcripts on the website Mike Slater.locals.com.
