Is his answer on the purpose of life sufficient for you? Can you think of a better one?
Good morning. Welcome to Politics by Faith brought to you by the Patriot Gold Group and the Public Square app. Yesterday we talked about the feeling you might still have inside of you that this just isn't enough. This isn't right. Something's off and you were made for something more. And we try to fill it with all sorts of things. We try to fill it with politics. We try to fill it with our jobs. Try to fill it with even good things, like our families. Try to fill it, that void. And those things can be good, but they're not going to fill that uneasiness that you feel. And what you feel is something we need to listen to. It's this desire for something that's transcendent. When Adam and Eve sinned, they covered themselves with that fig leaf. That was laughably not enough to cover their shame. And we try to do that. We try to find a bunch of fig leaves to numb the pain that is our separation from God. And I love that we ended yesterday with Isaiah 61 10, that forget that fig leaf. God has clothed us with the garments of salvation and the robe of righteousness. So I came across this clip the other day of Ben Shapiro talking about the meaning of life, the purpose of human life. Keep in mind, Ben Shapiro is Jewish.

The way that I've started to think about, you know, I keep going back to what is the ultimate purpose of human life. You go to a cemetery and you look at the headstones, that's the purpose of human life. Every headstone says the same thing. Beloved father, beloved brother, beloved mother, rabbi, priest, right? Particular roles, teacher, right? Things that you did, roles that you filled for other people. You know what it doesn't say how you felt about yourself.

I want to say that answer is close, but it's also like light years away, like compared to the truth, nothing can really be close. I mean, I guess it's technically closer than. Worse answers, but the truth is so perfect, even the best secular answer is still light years away. Of course, your calling on earth is good, the roles you serve, the way you love people, of course, but that's not the meaning of life. Just read the first two chapters of Ecclesiastes to see how Solomon thought about those things of the world that Ben was just speaking of. That's Old Testament too. And so is this, the meaning of life can be found in Genesis 1 26. Then God said, let us make man in our image after our likeness. God created us to have fellowship with him. The fall and then our ongoing sin breaks that fellowship. So how has it gotten back? How is our relationship with God restored? Well that's what Ben doesn't recognize. Jesus, Romans 5.10, For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son. Acts 4.12, And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we must be saved. Just Jesus. John 1.12, But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God." That reconciliation, of course. In John 14, 16, Jesus said to them, I am the way, the truth, the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Even if you're really good at your job. Wouldn't that be like a great lie? Jesus is like, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me and people who met their sales goals like every quarter. There's no other way to get to God. That's it. Me and really good met your goals and you're a good dad. If you're a good dad then you can work really hard. No, it's not it. But Slater, Jesus said, I've come that they may have life and have it to the full. So live your best life, man. Live it up! YOLO! Isaiah 43,7 God says, Bring all who claim Me as their God, for I have made them for My glory. That's it, right there. I've made them for My glory. It was I who created them. That's Isaiah 43,7. I who created them, back to Genesis 1, 26, let us make man in our image after our likeness. It's right there.

There's something that's so relieving. It's a relief. I was going to say encouraging, but it's a relief that people have thought about this for thousands of years and the answers are right here. And the Westminster Catechism answers all the big questions. And the very first one, what's the chief end of man what's the purpose of us being here and man's chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy him forever where did they get that first Corinthians 1031 so whether you eat or drink or whatever you do do all to the glory of God Psalm 73 25 whom have I in heaven but you and there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You. That needs to be our heart. John 17, 24, Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, may be with Me where I am to see My glory that You have given Me, because You love Me before the foundation of the world." Before the foundation of the world, and then leading to Genesis 126. Let us make man in our image. The purpose of life is not our job, not politics. It's to glorify God in everything we do.
