Someone called in today on the radio show and was spouting nonsense. Another listener said this person is who we used to call a "bleeding heart liberal." Where did that term come from? Once I learned its origin, I think it's something we should reclaim as our own.
Open politics by faith, rights and by the patriot gold. Guy called in today on the SiriusXM show. An independent who's from California and is moving back to California. Not independent at all, but likes to think of himself as an independent because it makes me feel very special. I'm my own man. I think with my own brain. I'm not a part of any team. I'm not a part of any cult. I'm an independent. Come woo me."
Yet he votes Democrat on every single issue. I think a lot of people say they're independent because it makes them feel special and sought after and prized. And I'm very important. I decide the election. So come regale me, impress me, dance monkey, woo me with your wares.
So I asked him about some issues and I asked him about open borders and he said, well, I'm for open borders. I said, why? He said, because I'm brown. That's interesting. Very independent when it comes to politics.
But policy, well, I'm brown. So I have to agree with all the other brown people? Or at least what all the other brown people are supposed to think on this issue because I'm brown too? Political parties? No, I'm my own man. I think with my brain. Okay, what do you think about open borders? Well, my skin says... Very interesting contrast. It's a very interesting call. Someone later called in and said, oh, what that gentleman was is what we used to call a bleeding heart liberal.
0:01:42
Very interesting word, bleeding heart liberal. It's been a while since I've heard that term, right? Have you heard that recently? It's actually been around a very long time. It became a political word in the 1930s, but then it really popped up again in the 50s and it was since the 1930s an insult.
0:02:02
I think an accurate representation of this word is that it's someone who thinks or at least says that they care so much about people, but it makes them blind to reality. Makes them not even care if they're actually helping people or not anyway, but they just feel good about it. I think that's right. This person was a bleeding heart liberal.
0:02:24
A lot of people still fall for that. This idea, been around for a while now, that it's the Democrats who are the ones who who care about people and it's the mean old Republicans who just don't care about people. It's so ridiculous. Hillary spoke a bit about this in her speech. She said, the Constitution says that the president's job is to take care. Kamala cares, cares about kids and families,
0:02:54
cares about America. Donald only cares about himself.
0:02:58
Her switcheroo with the word cares there is really good.
0:03:00
When our founders wrote take care, they meant like you're in charge, like the president's in charge of these things. It didn't mean the president is supposed to care. Oh, he's supposed to love and be generous and take care of children and families.
0:03:20
That's not what they meant by take care when they said that. Take care meant to be in charge of, but you see the idea here is like, oh, we're the Democrats, we're the ones who actually care about children. By the way, there's an abortion, a mobile abortion van

just outside the convention center. You can pop a couple of pills and kill the baby that's inside of you right now. That's how much they care about the children. Let's put politics aside here and also let's put away everything we know about the term bleeding heart in a political sense.
0:03:47
That's the only time I ever think about it. Bleeding heart, bleeding heart liberal. It's like an insult. It's supposed to be a demeaning thing. But what's the real root of that word. It didn't used to be like a cynical, negative thing. In 1862, the governor of North Carolina, he
0:04:08
gave a speech, he said, I come to you with a bleeding heart, honest and sincere motives, desiring to give you some plain thoughts. So it's a good thing is I'm pouring my heart out the bleeding heart, I'm being genuine. But let's go even before that. That was 1862. Let's go to 1793. There's a guy, William Carey, who led a group of missionaries to India to spread the gospel.
0:04:32
And in 1805, there was a group of nine men who signed a document which outlined their eleven principles of the mission work that they were engaged in. Serampore is the town of India there, the Serampore form of agreement. Article one. In order to be prepared for our great and solemn work of spreading the gospel. It is absolutely necessary that we set an infinite value upon immortal souls.
0:05:01
So I was thinking about all the abortion talk that they've had at the convention already on day one. That we set an infinite value upon immortal souls, that we often endeavor to affect our minds with the dreadful loss sustained by an unconverted soul launched into eternity.
0:05:22
If we have not this awful sense of the value of souls, it is impossible that we can feel a right in any other part of our work. Wow, that's amazing. If only we all had that view. That's just beautiful.
0:05:35
That's Article One. To be focused on the immortal soul and to be pained by the idea of an unconverted soul launched into eternity. Article Four.
0:05:48
Life is short. All around us are perishing. And we incur a dreadful woe if we proclaim not the glad tidings of salvation. Oh, may our hearts bleed over these poor idolaters, and may their case lie with continued weight upon our minds. That's the true meaning of the bleeding heart.
0:06:16
It's mourning over the brokenness of the world and of lost souls. It's not getting angry at people. We don't fight against flesh and blood. It's mourning, having a broken heart, a bleeding heart, our pain for people unsaved and living a lost life. Let's try to get back to that attitude. Let's try to get back to the true bleeding heart, not in a cynical way, but in a truly spiritual, blessed are those who mourn way. The end of this

document says, may we resolve ourselves with the help of the Holy Spirit to give ourselves up unreservedly to this glorious cause. Let us never think that our time, our gifts, our strengths, our families, or even the clothes we wear are our own. Let us sanctify them all to God and His cause. Oh that He may sanctify us for His work. Mike Slater dot locals dot com. Transcript and no commercials. Transcript and no commercials. Mike Slater dot locals dot com.
