Paul lived through a 2-week long storm at sea (this is after his 3 prior shipwrecks). A lot of people are living through some literal storms right now. I pray people living through it can keep their focus on their true mission like Paul did. And I pray we can all prepare ourselves for the next storm that will hit us.
Hey, welcome to Politics by Faith brought to you by the Patriot Gold Group. I was reading the Bible this morning, Acts 27, and it's a story about Paul on a ship sailing to Italy. 276 people aboard this ship. It was a grain freighter, so it was taking grain grown in Egypt to Italy. These types of ships are usually 140 feet long, 36 feet wide, 276 people on and they're in port and Paul says mmm
Probably not a good idea to set sail weather doesn't look good and at this point Paul knew what he was talking about He's traveled three thousand five hundred miles by sea This is a pretty good mariner and he's already been shipwrecked three times So it's amazing. He's even on a boat at all at this point I feel like if I was shipwrecked three times probably wouldn't get on a boat any more times.
He's like, so I don't think we should go out, but the men in charge of the ship said, now we're going anyway. So they're out and they get caught in a storm. And every day things get more desperate. Can you imagine being on a ship in a storm? I couldn't, I went on a half day fishing trip once in San Diego and it was miserable. I don't think I left, I don't think I went up on top of the boat I think I was just throwing up in the bottom of the boat and it was not a storm everyone else in the boat was Having a grand time and I it was miserable. So I Couldn't imagine being on a boat during a storm for days days
They're throwing stuff overboard But it just kept going storm went on for two weeks and they weren't eating. They weren't eating any food. They gave up hope. Scripture says all hope that we would be saved was finally given up. Then Paul spoke to everyone in charge of the ship and said, first of all he said, I told you so, but then he said, there will be no loss of life among you but only of the ship. So first point, I got three. The first point was, is for
0:02:00
there stood by me, this is Paul, for there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve, saying, Do not be afraid, Paul, you must be brought before Caesar. And indeed God was granted to all those who sail with you. Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God, that it will be just as it was told to me." What stands out to you there? I love the God whom I belong and whom I serve.
0:02:24
He didn't need to say that. He could have just said, I heard from an angel last night or even an angel from God. But he said, no, an angel from God, the God whom I belong and whom I serve. Paul never forgot his purpose in life, even in tragedy, even in disaster, even in pure torment. It's hard for me to keep my routines, even when I just travel and everything was fine. I was traveling the

other day, everything was fine. Even then it's difficult to keep reading the Bible and all. And that's crazy, that's so pathetic. And here's Paul in the midst of this horrific storm.
0:02:57
And never lost sight of his purpose.
0:03:00
I mean, how upset do we get if we're on a plane that's sitting on the runway for an hour? There we go for two weeks. Can you imagine two weeks of being on a boat, rocking, just pure misery, you're soaking wet, there's no dryers on board that you can dry your clothes and get nice and warm and toasty
0:03:16
There's no even like let's make it to the night And then whether it's a night and close my eyes and make it all go away for it's none of that You know, there's no sleeping just torture Yet he still knew no matter what he knew his purpose To serve the God to whom I belong and whom I serve Secondly, he says I believe God not I believe in God even the demons believe in God.
0:03:38
But I believe God." Later some sailors try to bail, and Paul says, No, no, no, unless these men stay in the ship, you cannot be saved. The men ended up staying. My second point. And the soldiers' plan was to kill the prisoners, lest any of them should swim away and escape.
0:03:57
But the centurion, wanting to save Paul, kept them from their purpose and commanded that those who could swim should jump overboard first and get to land and the rest some on boards and some on parts of the ship. And so it was that they all escaped safely to land. So the centurion wanted to kill the prisoners. It was Roman law that if a prisoner escaped then the guard could get the death penalty. So the centurion did not want that to happen.
0:04:19
So he said, well let's just kill all the prisoners. And Paul said, no no no you can't do it. And he didn't. And God's Word was, as always, fulfilled.
0:04:26
Mayor Paul said, God is granted to all those who sail with you, prisoners included. God's word is never wrong. I found that encouraging.
So why do I bring all this up?
My final point here.

There's a lot of people in the country right now who are in very desperate times because of the storms, because of the hurricanes, where everything's gone. Insurance isn't going to cover it. I learned this years ago that insurance only covers a flood that's in your house, so like that starts from your house.
0:05:01
So if your dishwasher floods, then insurance will cover it. But if the water comes from outside of your house, insurance won't cover it, unless you have flood insurance and almost no one does. So insurance isn't going to cover these people. And even if insurance did, there's no town left. So what do you even do?
0:05:15
There's people leaving Florida right now, not knowing what they're gonna come home to. This is a terrible time for a lot of people right now. It feels like a storm on a ship. And I pray that the Christians involved can be like Paul, where even in the midst of a horrific disaster,
0:05:30
I'm not belittling at all in any way, of course, even in the midst of this disaster, can still proclaim the truth like Paul did. I love this last line of Acts in the next chapter. Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house and received all those who came to him, preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him. And
0:05:53
that's the end, that's the end of Acts. Nothing stopped Paul and he never got distracted, never got sidetracked, no matter what the devil threw his way. I pray of course for everyone in the storm's path and the destruction from Helene. But I particularly hope and pray that the Christians involved can be inspired by Paul who in the midst of his storm was a light. And the Christians today in the midst of these storms can be a light as well.
