Around half of Christians don't vote at all. This needs to change.
Welcome to Politics by Faith, brought to you by the Patriot Gold Group. I'm excited for this message here that has been in my heart. The election, it seems a bit surreal right now, doesn't it? I don't know what the right word is. Surreal is maybe not it. It just kind of doesn't feel like it's happening.
I don't sense it from what it's been and certainly it's not the buzz that you would think it would have. I don't know why, I don't know if it's because everyone is so firm in their choice already, we're all just like, let's just get this over with. It's already a done deal, at this point we just got to do it, so let's just do it already. Maybe people are worried about what's gonna happen after.
It's just got a weird vibe right now. Maybe it's just me, but experiences may vary. Regardless of your anxiety level. Actually, maybe that's it. Maybe there's so much anxiety, people have so much anxiety about it
that I'm choosing to not even deal with it. I'm gonna ignore it until the big day comes and I'm gonna vote and be done. But I can't stress about it every day. Because maybe in the past it was a buzz, but now it's an anxiety.
So we're gonna do no buzz to try to limit the anxiety. Maybe that's part of it. Wherever you may be, read these two scriptures, they're two of my favorites. Philippians 3, 8. Indeed, I count everything as loss
because of the surpassing worth. So great, the surpassing worth, it's worth everything else, of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I've suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ. That's as good as it gets right there.
I'll pair that up with Romans 12, to do not conform to the pattern of this world. Oh wow, we got to do a study. Let me write down this word pattern. We got to do a study on the word pattern and we do it tomorrow. Actually on tomorrow's radio show, now we may get to it on Friday, we're gonna talk about Christians voting. About Christians voting and how so many Christians don't vote. We'll do a full segment on that but I want to get to that, I could do a little bit of that in just a second. But let me let me read this from Charles Spurgeon. He said, Would you like a full
assurance of faith? You cannot get that while you commune with sinners. This speaks to the do not conform to the pattern of this world. You cannot get that full assurance of faith while you commune with sinners. Do you want to burn with an impassioned love for Jesus? Your love will be dampened by the downpour of godless society. You cannot become a great Christian.
You may be an infant in grace, but you never can become a perfect adult in Christ Jesus while you yield yourself to the principles and modes of business of the people of the world. It is a bad thing for an heir of heaven to be close friends with the heirs of hell. Jeez, it has a bad look when a member of the court is too intimate with the king's enemies. Even small inconsistencies are dangerous.
Little thorns make great sores. Little moths destroy fine clothing. And little frivolities and mischiefs will rob religion of a thousand joys. Professor Christian, when you have too little separation from sinners, you don't even know what you lose by your conformity to this world. That's so profound.
When you have little separation, you don't even know what you're losing, because it cuts the tendons of your strength and makes you creep when you ought to run. For your own comfort's sake, and for the sake of your growth in grace, if you are a Christian, be a Christian, and be a marked and distinct one.
That's fantastic.
Man.
Now, hold on, hold on. Because you may be thinking, all right, Slater, that's great.
That sounds great.
I love that.
But you just talked about the election and voting coming up. And your radio show is about the world.
It's about politics.
But here it says, don't conform to the pattern of this world. And Charles Spurgeon here is saying, don't even engage at all with stuff with the stuff of the world with at the heirs of hell what do we do here very good question we can look to Charles I mean I'm not Charles Spurgeon is not Jesus but let's look to Charles Spurgeon right here he is he's the one who wrote what I just read here about not conforming to the pattern of this world well what did he do with
voting I got a couple quotes of him about this. He says, this is a sermon, he said, We are now called upon to exercise one of the privileges and duties which go with liberty, that no man be neglectful in it. Every God-fearing man should give his vote with as much devotion as he prays. He said, we're not for the religious questions involved.
We should not concern ourselves to any great extent with the doings of the polling booths. But there are religious questions involved. Let's just start and stop with abortion. We'll just start. That's all we need. But there's plenty of other religious questions involved as well.
be about the man or the party for its own sake or in and of itself, right? You can support a party, be a member of the party and support a person for office amongst the party, of course, but it's not about, we're not worshiping Trump. Spurgeon said, do not give yourself up to party spirit. To live for a political party is unworthy of a man who professes to be a Christian. You're a Christian first. This is the point.
You're a Christian first, Republican way down the line.
Now people back then even criticized Spurgeon.
In 1880, someone wrote a note to Charles Spurgeon criticizing him for descending, this is what the guy wrote, you are descending from your high and lofty position as a servant of God and preacher of the everlasting gospel into the defiling arena of party politics. And Spurgeon wrote a letter back. He said, in things divine, this is to this, he wrote this to this guy,
in things divine we are probably at one. You shall abstain from voting as unto the Lord and I will vote as unto the Lord and we will both give him thanks. I believe we have a duty and obligation to vote. If you would like to actively not vote, as this critic of Charles Spurgeon did, as unto the Lord, that's fine.
I would try to persuade you otherwise, but that's fine. But the worst thing, and what is not true is that a Christian should not vote for some sort of biblical reason or something. I believe you have a duty and obligation, it is a privilege to vote. And while no man is perfect and no party is even close, this is a part, a part of moving our country in the right direction.
