If anyone is concerned that Trump didn't put his hand on the Bible, I will direct you to something he said in his inaugural speech.
Welcome to Politics by Faith. Thanks for being here. Obviously, talking all about the inauguration on the radio this morning and such a wild time. I was talking about the speech that was yesterday, and it feels like it was weeks ago. And the speech was like 30 things ago.
You know what I mean like that's like such old news the speech that was yesterday at noon it's a crazy time right now but do the best we can to make sense of all of it someone called I asked on the radio what was your favorite part of yesterday all the festivities and someone said battle hymn of the Republic yes awesome answer I'll get to that in just a second, but, oh, someone else called in and wanted to know what the deal was
with Trump not putting his hand on the Bible when he took the oath of office. He said people all about that. And he said his wife, who hates Trump, thinks that that was like a message, like Trump's sending a message
that he hates God or something, right? It's like, okay, whatever, you guys. Here's what really happened. And you go back and you watch it. But it was in the rotunda. So everyone's all tight and close and, uh, it's time for the oath of office.
Trump gets up and chief justice Roberts hustles up. And then you see Melania in like a row back with the Bibles, two Bibles, and she sort of takes a step back and, and then JD Vance looks at her and it's kind of like in his brain, he's like, oh, you're supposed to be there. And then Trump's family starts to,
everything's all tight, right, so they're kind of like, excuse me, excuse me, so his whole family's kind of working their way in, and then by the time they all get there, they're already halfway through the oath. So it was Roberts who rushed through it really quickly. Now someone told me, and this I haven't confirmed,
but I guess the presidency ends at noon, and it was a little bit after noon, so there was maybe a minute or so when there was no president. I haven't looked that one up yet to see if that's necessarily what happened.
But either way, I don't know why he was rushed, but Roberts went too quickly, and then by the time Melania got there with the Bibles, they were already halfway through. And we've all been there. You've been to a wedding,
and you go to the wedding rehearsal, and you know, who's got the ring? And then you make a joke about the guy who's gonna lose the ring. And then, okay, you stand here, and then when they call for the ring,
you give them the ring, right? And then it becomes the actual wedding day, and the guy blows it, and he's supposed to be there, but he's actually way over there. And who has the ring? No one has the ring, right?
So we've all been there, and that's all that was. It was Melania like, oh wait, we're doing this right now, quit this quote, jeez, you're going. No grand conspiracy. My favorite moment, if we need to debunk that anymore, from Trump's speech was when he said this, he said, just a few months ago, in a beautiful Pennsylvania field, an assassin's
bullet ripped through my ear. But I felt then, and believe even more now, that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again. That is why each day under my administration, our administration, of American Patriots, we will be working to meet every crisis with dignity and power and strength. We will move with purpose and speed to bring back hope, prosperity, safety, and peace for
citizens of every race, religion, color, and creed. For American citizens, January 20th, 2025 is Liberation Day. The, I was saved by God to make America great again. That belief can fuel one to greatness. There was a pastor there. This guy is the pastor of a church in Detroit. And if you remember, we spent a good time on this one. This happened during the campaign that Trump went to this black church in the ghetto of Detroit and the pastor of that church
gave one of the prayers at the inauguration after it. And he ended up quoting Martin Luther King Jr.'s I Have a Dream speech, which is a combination of a few different things. One of the ingredients in the I Have a Dream speech is the hymn, My Country Tis of Thee, written by a Baptist minister in 1831. The song at the time, the hymn at the time was called America, and it was actually our national anthem, kind of a de facto national anthem before we have
the national anthem. And it was also sung to the tune of God Save the King which is just a good like sticking it to the king there we were only sick it was 1831 we're only 60 years away from 50 years away from the Revolutionary War so that the lyrics of that song are important my country tis of thee sweet land of liberty of thee I sing land where my father's died land of the Pilgrims pride land from every mountainside but freedom ring that's where MLK got the let freedom ring.
No more shall tyrants here, like in this place here, with haughty steps appear and soldier bands. No more shall tyrants tread above the patriot dead. No more our blood be shed by alien hands. Our Father's God, to Thee, Author of Liberty, to Thee we sing. Long may our land be bright.
Bright with what? With freedom's holy light. Protect us by thy might, great God our King. That was our national anthem for a long time. And the other patriotic song that was performed was the battle hymn of the Republic. And if I may, mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.
My eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored. The grapes of wrath are God's anger, it's God's wrath against sin and injustice. It's in Revelation 14, 19, So the angel swung his sickle across the earth, And gathered the grape harvest of the earth,
And threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trodden outside the city. He stepped on it, and blood flowed from the winepress. It's God's wrath. So mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored.
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of his terrible swift sword. His truth is marching on. Check this out. In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea, with a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me. As He died, as Jesus died to make men holy, let us die to make men free
While God is marching on Glory glory hallelujah our God is marching on It was no this like a patriotic song
We don't think of it as a beautiful Christian hymn So those are just some of my favorite moments from Yesterday's inauguration. I know it seems like forever ago, but I think we're in a good place We're moving in a good direction. And more of this, we can pray that God can bless America. Mike Slater dot locals dot com.
